The corner of a Manhattan park is the subject of this historical snapshot, depicting a public awareness campaign by the Falun Gong practitioners that sought to end torture and genocide against their fellows in China. A mock jail cell and makeshift torture apparatus, erected in the background, bring a glimpse of humanity’s hidden darkness to the city. The varied responses of passersby — ranging from deep-felt concern to stoic indifference — are reflected in the use of color.
